Most forgotten
What people forget to pack
Sunscreen
UV is stronger at altitude and the snow reflects it. Goggle tans and burnt noses are real.
A neck gaiter
The chairlift is where you get cold. A gaiter keeps the wind off your face.
A swimsuit
Most ski hotels and chalets have a hot tub, spa or pool.
Insurance that covers skiing
Many standard travel policies exclude winter sports. Check before you go.
Questions
Ski trip packing, answered
What should I wear skiing?
Three layers: a thermal base layer, a fleece or light down mid layer, and a waterproof ski jacket and trousers. Add ski socks, gloves, goggles and a helmet.
How many ski socks do I need?
One pair per ski day is the most comfortable, because socks get damp. Wear thin ski socks, not thick ones.
Can I rent ski gear?
Yes. Skis, boots, poles and helmets can be rented at almost every resort. Clothing, gloves and goggles you usually bring yourself.
What do I need for après-ski?
Warm, grippy boots for icy paths, a cosy layer and a swimsuit for the hot tub.
