What people forget to pack for Paris
Shoes you can walk all day in
Paris is a walking city with cobblestones and long metro corridors. Bring shoes you have already broken in.
A zipped crossbody bag
Pickpockets work the metro and the busy sights. A bag that closes and sits in front of you is the easy fix.
A compact umbrella
Paris has rain on 11 to 17 days a month, all year round. Showers are short, so a small umbrella is enough.
One smarter outfit
Jeans are fine almost everywhere, but you will want something nicer for a good dinner or a show.
Questions
Paris packing, answered
Do I need a power adapter for Paris?
France uses Type C and Type E plugs at 230V. From the US, UK or Australia you need an adapter. Check that hair tools work at 230V.
What should I wear in Paris in winter?
A warm wool coat, a scarf and gloves. December to February highs are around 6–7°C and it is often damp, so add a waterproof layer or umbrella.
What should I wear in Paris in summer?
Light dresses, T-shirts and a light layer for the evenings. July averages 24°C, with some hotter spells. Comfortable sandals or sneakers for walking.
Is Paris tap water safe to drink?
Yes. You can refill a bottle at the green Wallace fountains around the city.
